Renew & Rebuild Update – Have you done your part?

At the time of this writing, we have received over $900,000 in pledges and donations to the Renew and Rebuild Capital Campaign. This amount was given by 147 individuals/families. We are grateful for their generosity. Our goal is $1,000,022. This means that we have  just over $100,000 to raise before Christmas.

Have you made a 5-Year Pledge or given a donation? There are suggested 5-Year Pledges on the Pledge cards available in church (or online HERE).   A number of people have also chosen to give a one-time donation.

A $1,500 Pledge over five Years comes out to $25 a month. 74% comes back to St. Francis Church to help us take care of our aging buildings. Recently, we had two water pipes break and problems with one of our roofs that was on the schedule for future repair.

Now is the time to make a Pledge or give a donation to Renew and Rebuild.

We went an email about this on Giving Tuesday this week… if you missed it… here it is again:

It’s Giving Tuesday and a good day to thank everyone who has already committed to our RENEW & REBUILD Capital Campaign.  I also want to remind everyone who hasn’t yet pledged that we are relying on you to show your love for the Church of St. Francis of Assisi and to support this campaign.

Thanks to parishioners just like you, we have reached $880,000 in pledges!  That is amazing and I am grateful for the generosity of everyone who has committed.  We are still about $200,000 short of hitting our goal.

If you haven’t committed yet, and you are ready to, you can download our chart of suggested amounts listed HERE.

Remember this is a 5 year campaign.  So even a commitment of just $50.00 per month will go a long way in helping us reach our goal.  If you can do more, great!  If you need to do less, we are grateful for whatever you can give.

If you want to read the brochure which was handed out in church, you can download a copy here.  It contains information about the campaign and how this special capital fund will be used.

If you need another copy of the PLEDGE FORM you can download it HERE and send it back to me directly.

If you have any questions about this campaign, feel free to email me or call me.  And if you would like to meet in person to discuss your pledge, I’d be happy to meet with you.

I am grateful for all of you who have already made the sacrifice to keep St. Francis strong.  And I am asking everyone who comes to St. Francis and who loves this church to join this campaign.  It is because of you that this church will celebrate it’s 175th Anniversary next year with a bright future ahead.

Thank you and God Bless,

-Fr. Andrew

PS: below is a reflection that was given by Joseph Nuzzi, our Director of Evangelization at Mass on commitment Sunday.  It is about our call to make the sacrifice in our generation for the church.

In 2019, the Church of St. Francis of Assisi will celebrate it’s 175th anniversary!  This is amazing.  For 175 years the friars of Holy Name Province have ministered to the needs of Catholics right here in on 31st street.  For 175 years, men, women and children, young and old, rich and poor, from Germany, Bohemia, Ireland, Italy, the Philippines, Korean… in short from all over the world… have entered this sacred space to worship God, to celebrate their joys and to receive solace in their sadness.  Through all that time, people have felt the presence of God right here at St. Francis.

175 years ago mostly poor immigrants from Europe made great financial sacrifices to build the Church of St. Francis of Assisi.  The first generation of parishioners built a modest wooden church.  Then 50 years later, a future generation made financial sacrifices to build the church we worship in today.  Those Catholic immigrants sacrificed what they had to build a church for themselves, and for their children and grandchildren.  They bequeathed that legacy to us.

Today when we come to pray at St. Francis, we enter a beautiful church that we did not build.  It was built by others, and maintained for 175 years by others, and left to us as a gift.  We are not saddled with the burden to raise tens of millions of dollars to build ourselves a church to come to to worship God.  They left it to us.

Now it is our turn and our responsibility to join them in keeping this church strong for today and for future generations.  It is our turn to make the modest sacrifice to raise the money we need for capital improvements to these buildings that were left to us, especially to the church itself.

Because we are recipients of this great gift left to us by those amazing people who came before us, we are only called to raise $1.2 million dollars for the repairs and improvements we need to make today.  Our generation stands on the shoulders of previous generations.  Now is the time for our generation to do our part also.

As we make our pledges to this capital campaign, let us offer a prayer of thanksgiving for 175 years of ministry, of 175 years of sacrifice, of 175 years of the people of God gathering here and fulfilling their responsibility as disciples of Christ and members of the church.

We can gather here today because of what they have done for 175 years.
