Prayers To St. Anthony
Introduction
In Prayer We Speak To God Prayer is a pouring out of affection
towards God; it is a devout and friendly speaking with Him; it
is the tranquility of a mind illumined from above which seeks to
delight Him as much as possible. Prayer is also a plea for
temporal goods that are necessary for the present life. But they
who pray ask the Lord with a true Christian spirit to
subordinate their own will always to the will of God even though
they are moved to pray solely because of a need: only the
heavenly Father knows what one really needs in the temporal
order. Lastly, prayer is a thanksgiving, that is, an
acknowledgment of the benefits received and in exchange an
offering of all our works to God so that our prayer may be a
lasting one. Prayer In Any Necessity We salute thee, St.
Anthony, lily of purity,
ornament and glory of Christianity. We salute thee, great Saint,
cherub of wisdom and seraph of divine
love.
We rejoice at the favors our Lord has so liberally
bestowed on thee. In humility and
confidence we entreat thee to help us, for we know that God has
given thee charity and piety, as well
as power. Oh, then, behold our distress, our anxiety, our fears
concerning our salvation. We ask thee by the love thou didst
feel toward the amiable little Jesus when He covered thee with
His caresses, to
tell Him now of our wants. One sigh from that breast He so
honored will crown our success, will fill us with joy. Oh!
remember how complete thy bliss was as thou didst hold Him to
thy breast, pressed thy cheek to His, and listened to His
angelic voice. Think of this, and hear us for His condescending
love. If we could behold thee we would bathe thy feet with
respectful tears, and tell thee all we feel, all we fear for our salvation. But to see thee is not granted
us; therefore, we salute thee in spirit, O
glorious favorite of God, and bow down our guilty heads before
thee in humble reverence, while we
raise our sad hearts full of hope toward heaven and thee, for He
Who so often put Himself in thy arms
will now fill thy hands with all we ask of thee. Give us, then,
what we desire, angel of love, and we will
publish thy grandeur, thereby to honor and glorify Him Who so
blessed thee.
Amen.
Prayer To The Infant Jesus In St. Anthony’s Arms
O sweet Infant Jesus, Thou best and only hope of afflicted
souls, I prostrate myself at Thy feet and
beseech Thee, through Thy immeasurable love and grace, whereby
Thou didst visit Thy blessed servant St. Anthony and comfort and
embrace him, to come to me at his intercession and let me taste
how sweet Thy presence is to the souls that trust in Thee.
Prayer To Saint Anthony
O holy St. Anthony, gentlest of Saints, your love for God and
charity for His creatures made you worthy, when on earth, to
possess miraculous powers. Miracles waited on your word, which
you
were ever ready to speak for those in trouble or anxiety.
Encouraged by this thought, I implore of
you to obtain for me (mention the request). The answer to my
prayer may require a miracle; even so, you are the Saint of
Miracles. O gentle and loving Saint Anthony, whose heart was
ever full of human sympathy, whisper my petition into the ears
of the sweet Infant Jesus, Who loved to be folded in your arms;
and the gratitude of my heart will ever be yours. An Act of
Consecration To Saint Anthony O glorious St. Anthony, servant
and friend of God, I salute thee through the most loving Heart
of our Divine Savior Jesus Christ, Whom thou didst bear in
thy pure arms under the form of a child. I choose thee today as
my patron, advocate and father. I place all my cares and
temptations in thy hands. I earnestly resolve never to forsake
thee. Great Saint, lily of celestial purity and vanquisher of
concupiscence, obtain for me and all thy other clients perfect
purity of body and soul. I also, in imitation of thy zeal,
promise to lead others to the knowledge, the love and the
service of God through my own example and counsel.
Prayer For The
Restoration Of Things Lost Or Stolen
O blessed St. Anthony! The grace of God has made thee a powerful
advocate in all necessities
and the patron for the restoration of things lost or stolen. To
thee I turn today with childlike love and
heartfelt confidence. Oh, how many thousands hast thou
miraculously aided in the recovery of lost
goods! Thou wast the counselor of erring, the comforter of the
afflicted, the healer of the sick, the
raiser of the dead, the deliverer of the captive, the refuge of
the afflicted. To thee do I hasten, O
blessed Saint Anthony! Help me in my present affliction. I
commend what I have lost to thy care,
in the secure hope that thou wilt restore it to me if it be to
the greater glory of God and to the spiritual benefit of my
soul. Obtain also for me an active faith, peace of mind, disgust
for the vain pleasures of the world, and an ardent desire for
the imperishable goods of eternity. Amen.
(Our Father, Hail Mary, Glory be to the Father. Responsory.)
Prayer For The Happy Choice Of A State In Life
O blessed Saint Anthony, thou wast especially enlightened by God
to know the station in life wherein thou didst attain such a
high degree of holiness. Graciously obtain for me, I beseech
thee,
the grace from God that I may know and be able to embrace in
spite of all obstacles the station in life
to which I am called and in which I may the more
easily attain eternal salvation. Amen.
Prayer To Obtain The Grace Of Purity
O purest Saint Anthony, who through thy angelic virtue hast been
made worthy to be caressed by
Jesus, to hold Him in thy arms and press Him to thy heart: I
entreat thee to cast a benevolent glance
upon me, a poor sinner. By the mere touch of thy garment thou
hast communicated that most
precious of gifts, holy purity. Oh, deliver me by thy powerful
intercession from all thoughts and actions against the holy
virtue, that I may become a pleasing object in the eyes of Jesus
and His Immaculate Mother. Pray for me that my heart and soul may
remain pure and undefiled until death, and that I may
rather die than offend God by mortal sin. Amen.
Prayer For A Happy Death
O glorious Saint Anthony, invincible conqueror of death, who
restored so many to life: protect me from sudden and unprovided
death and my soul from mortal sin, in order that I may always
love God and remain in His holy grace. Amen.
Prayer Of Thanksgiving
O glorious Wonder-worker, St. Anthony, father of the poor and
comforter of the troubled, you have come to my assistance with
great kindness, and strengthened me abundantly I come to you to
give
you my heartfelt thanks. Accept my offering and, with it, my
serious promise, which I now renew, to
live always in the love of Jesus and my neighbor. Continue to
shield me graciously by your protection, and obtain for me the
final grace of being able to one day enter the kingdom of
heaven, to sing with you the everlasting mercies of God. Amen.

say: “These are of thee.”

young and old thine aid implore.
